Beginning Swing
The 8-week beginner class starts from the ground up and covers basic 6 – and 8-count swing dancing as well as basic partner Charleston and tandem Charleston moves. We use lots of repetition to help gain a solid knowledge of swing dancing and strong lead and follow skills are emphasized (not to mention we have a ton of fun). New students are admitted up until the 2nd week of class. No partner or knowledge of dance is required to attend. Sorry, no drop-ins allowed.
Intermediate Swing
The 8-week Intermediate class is for those who have the skills from the Beginning Swing class under their belt. We start adding to your dance tool chest and mixing the dance skills together. Each series is different. The prerequisite is the Beginning Swing series or the equivalent. You must be able to do all the material covered in the beginner class (basic 6-count swing, 8-count Lindy turn/whip, Lindy circle, side by side Charleston and Tandem Charleston). If you have only had ballroom style swing dance classes, you most likely have NOT had all the basics required for the intermediate class. If you aren’t sure if you qualify for this class, call or email us. New students are admitted up until the 2nd week of class. Sorry, no drop-ins allowed.
Instructors: Denise & Tom Bach
Denise has been teaching swing dancing since 2003 and has a style that is both fun and effective. She can break it down so simply that new dancers learn great lead and follow skills in a short time while having lots of laughs along the way. Tom joined the teaching team in 2013. Together with Tom and their love of people, dancing and having fun, there's not a better swing dance teaching team who truly care about their students and seeing them learn and conquer new material.
What do I wear?
Dress comfortably with shoes that are not sticky and have backs (avoid flip flops). Wear clothes you can move easily in. Avoid wearing lots of rings or jewelry that might get in the way (or scratch your partner) while dancing. While some folks come straight from work, very casual clothes like jeans, shorts, gym shoes, T-shirts are perfectly fine. It's a dance class, not a fashion show and it's good exercise!
Do I need a partner?
No! It's great if you come with a partner but most people come without a partner. We rotate partners during the class so you dance with everyone. It's a great way to meet people and it makes you a much better dancer to dance with a variety of people.
What is the refund policy?
If you find that swing dancing isn't for you (Is that even possible??) a 50% refund will be given for 8-week classes if you contact Denise Bach by email no later than noon, the day after the 2nd class. No refunds are given after that time. For 2 week-classes where payment is made on the first day of class, there are no refunds. Classes that are 3 weeks to 7 weeks long, requests for refunds must be made by noon the day after the first class for a 50% refund.
